This $8 million initiative aims to drive the development and commercialization of 100% compostable bioplastics, positioning Australia as a leader in sustainable innovation.
The Bioplastics Innovation Hub is a key component of the Australian Government’s commitment to reducing plastic waste and fostering a green economy. By 2030, the initiative seeks to reduce per capita waste by 10%, addressing the pressing environmental issues caused by plastic pollution.

The launch event, led by the Hon. Ed Husic MP, Minister for Industry and Science, marks a significant milestone in the global effort to combat plastic waste. Minister Husic emphasized the crucial role of the Hub, stating, “Compostable plastic is on the frontline in the war on plastic waste, and the Bioplastics Innovation Hub will be HQ. If we get this right, we won’t just be removing millions of tonnes of microplastic from our environment.
